5 Apps To Help You Sell Things Before Your Move

The months before a move is a great time to simplify your household. It’ll make the actual physical relocation more manageable and save money on moving costs since you won’t be transporting items that would probably go right into the attic anyway.

Why not declutter and put a few dollars back into your wallet to spend on items for your new home? You can start fresh in your new home with new furniture, décor, and an upgraded bedroom set. Here are five apps to help you sell things.

1. Craigslist

As one of the earliest methods of selling things online for free, Craigslist these days has an app to sell your extra belongings right from your phone—it works for both iOS and Android. Then, simply post your items and connect with buyers.

2. Facebook Marketplace

As a popular social network, it’s no surprise Facebook has created a way for sellers and buyers to connect with its Marketplace product. Marketplace offers two methods for sellers and buyers to find each other.

  • Create a listing and let Marketplace send ads to people in your vicinity
  • List items in Facebook’s “Buy and Sell Groups”

Facebook’s app is available for both iOS and Android phones.

3. OfferUp

If looking for an easy way to advertise your items, OfferUp is an increasingly popular option. Through the app, you can post a photo of your item, add a description, and set a price. Then, chat with potential buyers through the app once your listing goes live. In addition, the app allows both buyers and sellers to create profiles so users can rate their experiences. Available for Android and iOS.

4. Poshmark

People with an excess of gently used clothing or fashion accessories find Poshmark the perfect peer-to-peer selling app to sell some of their unused designer or high-end items. All you need to do is create a profile, snap a photo of your item and create your listing. Poshmark does have sellers send high-end luxury items sold through the app to their headquarters to be authenticated. Expect to pay a small fee for items under $15 and a 20% commission for more expensive sales. Available on both iOS and Android.

5. eBay

After all these years, eBay is still one of the most popular ways to sell items you no longer need or want. One of the great things about eBay is you can list it at the price you want for “Buy it Now” or put it up for auction to see how much your item is worth to buyers. You can even set your listing to allow buyers to negotiate the price. So, the sky’s the limit if you want to sell electronics, clothing, vintage dishes, or even a car, the sky’s the limit. eBay does charge fees for sales, but these can vary; always check to see what it’ll cost you to sell an item. Available on both iOS and Android.
